By The Open Statement Of The Truth

But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God. 2 Corinthians 4:2 (ESV)

As believers, we have the privilege and responsibility of sharing God's word with those around us, but there is a lot of pressure to interpret the words of Scripture through cultural, political, and social filters so they seem more relevant or useful. As this passage points out though, the Bible does not need our embellishment or help to do its work.

Rethinking Annual Wellness Visits

When we discuss preventative medicine and ways we can take responsibility for our health, annual wellness visits might come to mind as a means to accomplishing both. It seems to be part of the conventional wisdom most of us abide by, at least in theory. We may not make that visit every year, but we know we should. Or should we?

Over the last several years, there has been a shift on this topic, with more and more physicians saying there is a better way to approach wellness.

I Shall Not Be Afraid

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?  Psalm 56:3-4 (ESV)

Fear rears its head as a result of a wide range of circumstances and expresses itself in myriad ways. From physical danger to loss of financial stability, there are plenty of reasons to be afraid throughout this life. Left unchecked, fear can take over and cause us to doubt everything we've ever believed. That is, unless we can find an antidote.

Cooking And Eating Close to the Earth

From time to time, a member reaches out to us with a particular perspective and an offer to share his or her knowledge with fellow members. This was the case with Marcia W., a member and chef from New Jersey who was gracious enough to pass along some information on her experience of eating "close to the earth," along with a recipe for our readers to try. We followed up with Marcia and asked her to share a little bit more about how her philosophy regarding food relates to her Liberty HealthShare membership.

Staying Sun-Safe This Summer

Up until a few weeks ago, it seemed warm weather would never arrive for the northern part of the United States. Thankfully, it seems spring (and in some places, summer) temperatures have finally arrived and even better, it looks like they are here to stay! However, along with longer, warmer days, comes a need to consider sun safety and the risk of skin cancer.

You may or may not be aware that skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. It is also one of the most preventable forms of cancer since the majority of cases are associated with exposure to UV radiation from the sun. May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, so now is a great time to think ahead about how you will protect yourself and your family from unhealthy sun exposure this summer.

All For The Sake Of The Gospel

...I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.

1 Corinthians 9:22-23 (ESV)

We live in a time when many people feel they must identify with a group or "tribe" in order to have a voice. Despite the fact that our culture elevates individualism, there is palpable pressure to align with a voting bloc or social movement. Don't believe it? Just watch the news or scroll through your social media feed. We aren't exempt in the Church either, where there is a real tendency to place ourselves and others in denominational, theological boxes.

The Apostle Paul, however, had a very different understanding of identity.

Immune Boosting Chicken Noodle Soup

It's amazing what a warm bowl of chicken noodle soup can do for a person when they are sick. Even just saying the words "chicken noodle soup" somehow magically makes the immune system perk up. After a few weeks of traveling, inconsistent sleep, and everyday stress, I was bound to attract any germs that were floating around waiting to attack a vulnerable immune system.
