Yahweh your God is among you,
a warrior who saves.
He will rejoice over you with gladness.
He will bring you quietness with His love.
He will delight in you with shouts of joy.

In Zephaniah 3, God expresses to Israel how complete their restoration will be when they repent of their sin and turn back to him. The metaphors almost seem to contradict each other, but each of them highlights aspects of his posture towards his people. This verse culminates in stating God's delight in those he reclaims. The word used here describes being so overwhelmed by joy that the delighted one spins around.

A.W. Tozer once wrote, "What comes to mind when we think about God is the most important thing about us." It's true. When our understanding of God is rigidly bound to just one part of his character, we are profoundly limited to only act based on what we believe is true of him. This verse reminds us that the same holy God who judges sin is delighted by the forgiveness of sin and the redemption of his people. Does this change how you think about him?
