Fear rears its head as a result of a wide range of circumstances and expresses itself in myriad ways. From physical danger to loss of financial stability, there are plenty of reasons to be afraid throughout this life. Left unchecked, fear can take over and cause us to doubt everything we've ever believed. That is, unless we can find an antidote. In this passage, the Psalmist directs our eyes to the God of the Bible and rightly names Him as the only trustworthy answer to our fears.

As a taste of what is to come, the last sentence prophesies of Jesus' triumph over death and the grave. In Christ, even our fear of the flesh is answered with a resounding "This is not the end." Fear can overwhelm if we let it, but the powerful God of the universe is stronger. As we trust Him more, fear will lose its power over us.
