We believe that combating health care costs begins with caring for personal health. This value is at the core of our healthsharing model, as we encourage our members to take on responsibility for healthful choices before there are ever medical bills to share. To this end, we offer the HealthTrac Program to incoming members with pre-existing conditions like Type 2 diabetes, obesity, or smoking, that can be alleviated by healthy lifestyle changes. Members are paired with a personal health coach who helps them create and work towards achievable fitness and diet goals until they graduate from the program as fully integrated members of Liberty HealthShare. One of our members, Carla, reached out to us with her experience in the HealthTrac program since joining Liberty, and it is our pleasure to share her story.

Thank you.

I feel I need to share my health journey with you and express my gratitude for what you have helped me achieve.

Truthfully, I can say, when I joined your health share plan my goal was legal, affordable health “insurance”. The choice of insurance premiums offered by the Affordable Health Care Act for a working woman over 60 were disgracefully unaffordable. So, I looked for options and found you…and took the plunge into new waters: a health share program. I admit I was skeptical.

You acknowledged my obesity problem and assigned me a health coach. Again, skeptical as is my nature, I thought, “Great- they are going to assign me a young, fit, vegetarian health-coach who is going to tell me what I need to do to lose weight. Like I don’t already know…I’ve been dieting my whole life!” I braced myself for the first health coach phone call.

To my surprise, health coach Emily Taylor did not try to tell me what to do. Instead she asked “What works for you?” and offered to suggest ideas and changes as I progressed for improved success.

Now, here’s the thing about me. I am a people pleaser. From day one I wanted to please my health coach. I didn’t want to let her down, so I calculated my diet plan. I knew that this diet plan would have to be a lifestyle- a lifetime plan. I love butter and can’t live without ice cream so, yes, I had to include this in my lifetime plan or else it would not be sustainable. I decided to eat low calorie, healthy foods six days a week and on the seventh day, I gave myself permission to eat whatever I wanted without guilt.

Slowly but surely the pounds came off. I enjoyed all foods during holidays, vacations and cheat day #7 but was able to jump right back on a healthy track afterwards. I got monthly encouraging and educational calls from Emily. She was extremely knowledgeable and shared healthy recipes and helpful exercise tips. She answered all my questions and sent me e-mails with pertinent information.

So, thank you Liberty Health Share for your affordability, your ability to help so many in need, and your amazing health coach program!Today, 17 months later, I am down 46.5 pounds. I am healthier, happier and more energetic than I have been in over 30 years. Each week I drop another half-pound to a pound. My goal is within reach! I have proven it is possible. With Emily’s support, I have no doubt I will get there.
